OK – got my pics in order, so here goes….

I rode up to the Trading Post Saturday AM starting in Louisville @ 6:30. As I crossed the Ohio I realized I had forgotten my camera, but the die was cast so I carried on. Got to meet several new riders, but it always takes me a couple meetings before I can remember their names. We did some great roads, both paved and dusty gravel and a couple trails (which some folks on horses have the nerve to ride on!) As we got close to metro Louisville my plan was to peel off and head home for the night but it was still fairly early so I stuck with the group and rode into Corydon. Had a beer at the Mexican joint with everyone and then took 62 back to home to sleep under my own roof.

Sunday I did bring my brownie. I’m kinda point and shoot happy, so here’s the photo-log…

Thanks for getting me out of ditch guys! Thought I was doing pretty well till then, but as I told Jeff Cooke “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger”.

We did one more trail up some cell tower road and came out the driveway of some LEO’s home. I guess Roaddad sent him some passes to Holiday World to get him and his family out of town that day. I split for the ride back home shortly after and didn’t get to say thanks to everyone. Really had a great time. It was great to see everyone again and to meet some new folks. We’ll have to have breakfast at Krazy Joe’s again soon!

Nice riding with you Farrell.

Sorry we got separated and lost you. Guess it would be best to pair folks up with those with GPS/maps to keep everyone together. Here’s a quick pic. I’ll post the rest tomorrow.

Sunday, for the bit I was a part of, was pretty cool. We all congregated at the Holiday Inn Express, which was a large part of why I had chosen to stay there, I figured if I did oversleep, I’d hear all the bikes pulling in, or pulling away, or something. As it turned out, I awoke early enough to get a chance to chat with the guys and down a couple of cups of cocoa before we got all of our stuff ready to go.

hnfride102324015

hnfride102324016

After our first bit of gravel, we ended up at our only ‘water crossing’ of the day as RoadDad put it. It was pretty cool, and you could tell it would get pretty gnarly if there was any appreciable flow down the stream.

hnfride102324023

The next stop was at an intersection on SR-62 while we waited for Paul and the rest of the incoming crew. They, however, were at the next intersection. A quick phone call got everything squared away and we were on the road again. This time with a bumblebee in the front of the pack.

hnfride102324024

Further on down the line was a bridge across the Blue River that paul has already shown.

hnfride102324030

Then the shoe tree.

hnfride102324032

hnfride102324033

hnfride102324031

Then the ‘Pit Stop for a Gassy Paul’ where he bummed some gas from Jeff’s rotopax.

hnfride102324037

I didn’t get any pictures for the rest of the morning. We ended up in French Lick, and after a large pumpkin pie flavored Blizzard, I bid adieu to all the fine folks, and puttered 10 miles up the road toward home since I was so close and completely tired.

As with my usual amount of preperation, I decided to check this thread before I headed off on Saturday morning, and had a message from Backerthebiker taking me up on my offer of riding up together. I called him and luckily found him still at home. Plans were set to meet up near my house, which I called ‘on the way’ for him. I got to the meeting point first and was surprised when 3 bikes wheeled into the church parking lot instead of one. RoadDad and BigDog had recruited Backer after I had talked to him and now there were 4 of us. I had a little pre-game sidetrip planned, but forgot to realize that the planner of the original trip would probably like to make it on time. After what I’d call a bit of a scenic detour, we started on the slab and made really decent time.

hnfride102324001

I think we were some of the first ones to Krazy Joe’s. We certainly weren’t the last, as the WR250R’s started multiplying like rabbits. Wes, *I think* on a KLR noticed I was SERIOUSLY lacking air in my tires and after loaning a pressure gauge, and stealing some Free Air from Krazy Joe’s Free Air Pump, I was primed and ready to go.

Then we stopped and I took a picture.

hnfride102324002

I was beginning to wonder how long it was until we hit a fuel stop, as I was 100 miles plus into my tank and only had about 70 more to go. I wasn’t REALLY worried, but still, best think about it when you’ve got enough gas to actually GET somewhere if you have to. Tim assured me we had a scant 50 miles from Krazy Joe’s until we hit the bustling metropolis of Brownstown which had a Huck’s station. After Hucks, we headed up the mountain, and stopped shortly at an overlook, the “Brownstown Vista” if I remember clearly.

hnfride102324006

After the Brownstown jaunt, next on the list was a little 2-track down a steep hill cleared for a power line. It was near or actually was part of Knobstone Trail if I remember correctly. You can see RoadDad and Backer WAY DOWN the hill. I kind of tweaked my hamstring trying to catch up.

hnfride102324007

Next was Jeff’s flat and yet another roadside pow-wow just beyond the trail-head in the picture. Knowing I couldn’t do a damn thing to help anyone, I left the repairs to the professionals and took off with BigDog, and ThunderDog.

We shortly found ourselves in the little ville of Leota, home of the non-original aftermarket replacement Covered Bridge over Cooney Creek.

hnfride102324014

So, a few more miles down the road and after a pit stop to drain the yellow out of our eyes, we were motoring through a nice stretch of forest ground again, running a ridge top trail that had some awesome views. Big Dog decided he needed a few snapshots, and so we stopped. I pulled my camera out of my pocket and went to snap a photo, only to realize it was in film mode. Instead of switching back into photo mode, I went with it, as the conversation was priceless. Especially considering the earlier remarks in this thread about how getting anywhere with RoadDad was impossible with all his peeing problems.

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

After dropping down into some valleys after the extensive ridge riding we were doing, BigDog notice that there was an inordinate amount of haze covered the trees in the distance. We figured it wasn’t fog because it hadn’t rained in Indiana since about 2009 or something. After motoring along a bit more Mark pulls off and harasses a local farmer about it. Come to find out there’s was supposedly a fire in Kentucky somewhere and the smoke was drifting up into the valley we were riding through. Pretty wild.

I didn’t get any pictures for the rest of the trip, as the smoke was obscuring any of the high overlook views, and before I knew it we were rolling into Corydon. I was getting pretty tired at this point, I had ridden a motorcycle through my entire normal sleeping period since I work nights. At Olga’s, I decided that I was going to find a hotel and crash for the rest of the day.

Helluva ride today guys. Big thanks to RoadDad and Woodsrat for getting it going. Just what I needed. Perfect weather and a great route!!

After a hearty meal and ice cream RoadDad explained to us the technicalities of the next section. Stragglers may or may not be prosecuted.

IMG_20101024_142418

Some of you may notice my bike usually near the front of the pack. Several reasons for this.
A. Slightly less dust.
2. If I dump it someone might help me get up, if for no other reason than to clear the trail.
C. I always have gas behind me. Last resort, clothsline Kneekicker and siphon from his 55 gallon 2 wheeled tanker truck.
4. C.O. won’t catch everyone. Just those in the back. (Unless he’s waiting for us at the intersection) Wha??
